Background:
The company I work for has a contract in Portugal (Aveiro area) which started in July 2008 and runs to the end of the year. I have been the person undertaking the work there and hense have had the opportunity to get to know a little of Portugal. It looks likely that a new contract will be signed for next year, resulting in me spending more time there (6-12 months).
In the Aveiro area, also in and about the town, I have seen several houses in a run-down state (definately not occupied), but without any indication of ownership or status as to whether they are available for purchase. I am generally a 'projects' person and like to get my hands dirty, so such a project (to while away the evenings etc) would be of great interest to me. Not to mention having a future holiday home in the region.
I have scoured internet sites and some estate agent windows to no avail: the majority of properties are new builds or built within the last decade or two.
What I am trying to find out is how one goes about enquiring as to whether these sort of property are for sale: through the town hall or estate agents, etc.... I have asked some Portuguese friends but they are unable to shed any light on the subject.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Benn
